Overdose?

Hi, I have a wisdom tooth that has broken and its causing incredible pain. I seriously feel as if my face is going to explode. The dentist cannot see me until next month, we are a military family stationed overseas so he is my only option. Sunday night I was desperate to lessen my pain. I took a 30 mg tablet of Tylenol 3 and 2 naproxens 500 mg each. About an hour later I took 4 more 500mg naproxen, an hour after that 4 more. I wasn't thinking of anything other than stopping the pain. About an hour after that I took an adult sized dosage of Nyquil. I awoke Monday morning with a sharp pain in my upper abdomen. The pain comes and goes but stays longer each time it "hits".  My stomach seems to be a little swollen but since I am a larger sized woman and have my share of belly fat it is hard to say how swollen it is. It feels tight on the inside and that's the best way I can describe it. I will see my Physician tomorrow morning but  our Military doctors, at least here, are inclined to get you in and out, they don't do much for you. A script and your out the door. Should I insist that she look deeper into this. I feel very stupid but if you have ever had a toothache I am sure you can understand my desperation to ease the pain. It is a sharp almost stabbing pain in my upper abdomen. In between those pains my stomach feels tight and achy. And to make matters even better, my tooth still hurts like all get out but I am afraid to take anything else. God help me.

Naproxen can be very hard on your stomach, and in the dosages that you took (well above the recommended dosages), can cause gastric problems.  Definitely discuss this with your doctor, and tell him/her exactly what you took.  Sometimes, the doctor can also give you a prescription for pain medication for your tooth while you wait to see the dentist.  You need to be careful with combining medications as some contain other drugs (for example, Nyquil usually contains acetaminophen (tylenol).  You can overdose without realizing it by taking tylenol and Nyquil together.  Good luck and hopefully you can get your tooth taken care of sooner.

Thank you. I understand that I must be careful when mixing meds and that what I took was well over a normal dosage.My only defense for stupidity was unbelievable pain which made it seem like a good idea then. Thanks so much and have a wonderful day.

I completely understand- I think toothaches and earaches are the worst.  Hope you feel better soon- be sure to ask for a pain medication prescription- this way you won't suffer until your dentist appointment.
