Penile swelling due to Nuvaring allergy?

I started the nuvaring about 8.5 months ago.
My boyfriend and i have noticed a day or so after we have intercourse that there is a swollen ring right below the head of his penis, and its quite itchy and irritated.
Could this be from direct trama (rubbing) or some sort of allergy to the nuvaring?
Again this has only been a problem since i have been using Nuvaring, and am quite concerned.

I've done some research but haven't really found anything helpful.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and thanks for using the forum.

Most women, when they use Nuvaring, do not even feel the ring or notice it during intercourse.  However, there are some people who find it uncomfortable or whose partner finds it uncomfortable.  Are you feeling any pain during intercourse?  Can you or your boyfriend feel the ring moving?  Your boyfriend could see his doctor and find out if the ring on his penis looks to be caused by a sensitivity to the Nuvaring, or if could be caused by something else and it gets irritated with intercourse (such as a fungal infection).  IF his doctor thinks it could be the ring, you can remove it and use another form or birth control and see if the irritation subsides.   If the irritation does subside, then Nuvaring may not be the right form of birth control for you.  I hope this info helps.   Good luck.
