Warfarin User, just had blood in my stool

Im 23yrs old, and I was diagnosed with a blood clot in my right lung, as such im currently taking Warfarin - Marevan.

Im taking 6mg three times a week and 5.5mg every other day.

Earlier tonight I went to the washroom to when I went to wipe i looked down and the bowl was filled with blood. Obviously it looked horrendous, but I dont think it was as bad as it looked because the water in the bowl would make it look worse then it is. Anyways, I wiped and all the blood was on the outside and very very little when I checked inside my "ya know" ....

I have a doctors appointment tomorrow and I was wondering how severe this possibly could be, and if at all life threatening because Im a little freaked out at the moment.

Hi and thanks for using the forum.

This is definitely something you should tell your doctor tomorrow, but more than likely this is not serious.  You probably have a hemroid and sometimes having a bowel movement can irritate it and make it bleed.  The fact that you are on coumadin will make you bleed more than most, but as long the bleeding stops it is OK.  You might want to try taking a stool softener to help prevent any constipation or hard stools that may irritate this further.  Good Luck.

As an aside, do you know what caused your blood clot?  If it has not been discussed with you as of yet, you may want to ask if a greenfield filter might be appropriate for you.  I don't know the specifics of your case, but just wanted to mention it in case it would be appropriate.
