What is my father's condition called?

Hello,

I would like to know what my father's condition is called so that I can read about this. He suffers from terrible pain in his throat all the way to his stomach. When he eats, the food is supposed to go through this hole and then through the stomach, as I understood it. The hole in his case is much smaller than normal, so the food does not go to his stomach as fast as is needed. It stays above, so to speak, and this is what causes these pains. It's a burning feeling he says.

Sorry for my inability to explain correctly, as English is not my first language. If you did not understand me, I will try my best to explain it better than this.

I am not sure, but from what you have described, it sounds like a hiatal hernia.  Let me know if this is not it and I will look into it again.
