explanation of results

over the last 3 yrs ive had repeated (high white cell) count,, what causes this?? also high (nutrophilla) count (not sure how that is spelt) i believe its due 2 infection or inflamation,m is this correct?? an what can be done about it if theres no known cause???

Hi and thanks for using the forum.

It is best to discuss the results of your blood work with your doctor who also has done a physical exam on you and can correlate the results.  However, I can give you some information.

Neutrophils are white blood cells that act as our primary defense against bacterial infections.  An elevated neutrophil count would indicate a bacterial infection (neutrophils can also be elevated due to physical stress and inflammatory processes).  

I cannot really say why your white blood cell count has been elevated for such a long time.  If your primary care physician is unable to determine the cause for this, you may benefit from seeing a hematologist.  I hope this info helps.  Good luck.
