lacunar Infarct

lacunar Infarct

Hi my name is Christine................ I was having headaches and eye pain for over a week. Having headaches and CT Scans in the past I waited as long as I could stand. Well i finally went to the ER where they did blood work and a CT of the head that showed a very small Lacunar Infart, they said that means stroke or busted blood vessel. I was admitted and with In two hours they did a MRI and MRA of the head and MRI of the neck no contrast! The results from all them came back fine and no showing of anything wrong at all and no Lacunar Infarct. The Dr said I was fine and let me go............................. well now I'm so scared and confused. Was it there on the CT and then went away before the MRI could get to it? Was the ct wrong and do I trust the MRI and MRA over it? Why would the CT show such and not the MRI? My anxiety is so high It's unreal.........................I had already in my mind screaming and crying what about my kids and grandson! I just need a straight answer PLEASE, thank you.

Hi Christine, thanks for using the forum.

I cannot say for sure what was or wasn't on your CT Scan.  What I can tell you is that the MRI/MRA can give a more clear and precise picture of what is going on. What I am thinking happened is that your CT Scan was suspcious for a lacunar Infarct and that is why the MRI/MRA was done.  Then the MRI/MRA did not show an infarct.

To be sure of this, you can request copies of your CT scan and MRI/MRA results (I would ask for copies of the actual films, not just the interpretation of them) and bring them with you to see your doctor (preferably a neurologist).  You should also have your headaches evaluated since it seems you are having them frequently.  Good luck.
