Anti-Fungals & Taste

by Pezmo, Nov 07, 2009 01:25AM
I was prescribed a round of amoxicillin for my tonsils, as well as two doses of Diflucan for potential yeast. About 2/3 of the way through the amoxicillin, I developed severe tongue pain and was told to take the Diflucan. I took one pill, noticed some improvement. When symptoms worsened, I was told to take another one. Same story. Was next prescribed Nystatin swish and swallow. Same story (took for 5 days). Was next prescribed antifungal lozenges but decided that a yeast test was necessary after about 3 of them. No yeast showed up. I still have a terrible, chronic bitter taste in my mouth. Could this be the result of so many anti-fungals in three weeks time? My taste buds also appear to be slightly swollen, but it's hard to tell because I'm no doctor.

Yes, it is possible that the anti-fungals caused the bitter taste in your mouth and the slightly swollen taste buds. These symptoms should go away after you discontinue the medications. If they do not, please consult with your doctor.

How long after discontinuing the medicine? Immediately? After a week? Weeks? Gradually? Suddenly?
