Blood Pressure Medicine question

I am a 42 year old male who was diagnosed with HBP about 4 years ago.  I started out taking Lisinopril but had bad side effects such as facial flushing, hot flashes and nausea.  My doctor then put me on Metoporol 50 mg and my BP was not well controlled.  He then put me on 100 mg metoporol Succ and I was still not well controlled.  He then added the Hyzaar 50 12.5 to the 100 mg metoporol Succ and I am now well controlled with 120/80 BP readings.  My questions are:  Are there long term side effects - risks to being on these medicines (assuming I have to take them for the rest of my life)?  The metoporol has lowered my heart rate to about 55-60 bpm.  The doctor said this is fine as long as I don't feel faint (which I don't).  Also, is it ok to take 1000 mg Vitamin D and a multi vitamin with the Hyzaar?  I read someplace that the Vitamin D and potassium in a multi vitamin is bad for people on diuretic BP pills?  What are your thoughts on these questions?
