The most frequent adverse reaction reported with ibuprofen is gastrointestinal (GI) effects, such nausea/vomiting and abdominal pain. Severe effects includes ulcers, peptic ulcer disease, or GI perforation. The risk of severe GI events is increased by the following factors: history of peptic ulcer disease or GI bleed, smoking, alcohol usage, usage of anticoagulants, or oral corticosteroids, older age, poor general health status, and NSAID duration of use.
