lortab and early pregnancy

by joansmith1973, Sep 29, 2009 10:06AM
I have been taking prescription 4 Lortabs (7.5-500) a day up until the week after my missed period, which means my embryo was 3 weeks old from the conception. On the day I found out I was pregnant, I went down to 1 a day for another three days and then stopped completely. Could that almost 4-week amount have caused damage to the baby? I do not drink alcohol or smoke. And if my migraines return, is it safe to take 1-2 pill a week or better just suffer through it? Lortab is the only medication that removes the pain completely. Thank you very much! Joan

Lortab is pregnancy category C if used short term, and Preg. Cat. D if used long term. This means that the baby can potentially be born with withdraw. The fact that you stopped the medication should reduce the chance that your baby would have a problem. You should talk to your doctor about the risks vs. the benefits of taking 1 or 2 lortabs as needed for migraine. He/she might feel that it is okay or they might feel that an alternative therapy is needed to will ensure safety.
