There are a number of over-the-counter pain relievers available for children. It is not possible to compare the various drugs available by strength as many work differently. I would recommend using plain acetaminophen (Tylenol) if treating pain only. If you need a pain-reliever and also an anti-inflammatory drug, you can use a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen. It is generally recommended to use the child's weight to calculate the appropriate dosing of either medication.
