One suggestion is since you are taking 1,000 mg per day you should call your doctor and ask if you can split your dose and take 2 tablets of 500 mg per day to reduce the side effects. Splitting the dose may help you tolerate the medication better and reduce the diarrhea. Another suggestion is to take Imodium (immodium) for TEMPORARY relief. It should not be taken every day to prevent or treat the diarrhea you are experiencing from the metformin.  If you split your dose, you should see how you feel on that. If you do not have any relief then you should take Imodium (immodium) and contact the doctor to switch you to a different medication that you will be able to tolerate.

As for your UTI, you should go and get proper treatment with antibiotics and for future prevention, drink plenty of water to flush your system and wipe from the front to the back to avoid further contact. If you do not get proper treatment, the UTI will not heal and it will come back and lead to further complications and pain.
