should cipro work in 48 hours?

i saw my doc the other day following intense pain in my sides. i had protein and blood in my urine and although idont really have classic symptoms of a UTI, he put me on cipro and said if it wasnt better in 48 hours to go back. im just wondering if cipro would work in 48 hours? because i still have achey pains in my sides. i know u have to take it for 10 days.
thanks

I have had several UTIs and have found the over- the -counter pain meds for such ( the ones that turn your urine bright yellow) to be very helpful while the antibiotic was taking effect. You should still make sure you take the full course of antibiotics, however.

It should start working within 24-48 hours and you should start feeling better, but you do have to continue the therapy for 10 days.
