12 year old lying all the time....

I don't know what to do to help him stop this behavior. He is dx Asperger's (ADHD, OCD, anxiety). I always thought he lied because he got confused so easily. He is extremely disorganized and school is usually the biggest problem. Lately he's been lying about EVERYTHING. He tells stories (he has a fantastic imagination) and they are truly believable!! He will come up with something so quickly , it doesn't have to be well thought out. When he gets in trouble for the lie, he sometimes seems confused like he doesn't even realize it was a lie. Is anyone else going through this? We've tried everything from grounding him to having him write apology notes to people. It comes so naturally for him now, it scares me :(

I always thought aspies were basically 'unable' to lie.
