Mr. Hissy Fit

My boyfriends 10 yr old has aspergers, adhd & odd he refuses to except the word no he has total temper tantrums any suggestions on how to handle them.  He has tantrums at school also when he doesn't get his way.  My boyfriend and I put our foot down about it but how do we deal with it with out giving to much attention to it?

our son is 8 - same deal but he has other med issues too. our behaviour therapist suggests:
1 lock his door (lock him in where its safe for him to tantrum)
2 use few words as possible (not giving him what he wants - interaction from you)
3 consistent consistent consistent... never change your answer. ever.
you've probably heard 2 & 3 before but 1 is really acceptable in aspieland and i works like you cant imagine, even on mr stubborn which is my boy too :) good luck

Thank you so much for this advice, and for the question. I too struggle with this every single day from my. He isn't diagnosed yet, but he has had some testing through his preschool and is being scheduled for more testing. They are looking at Asperger's, ADHD, ODD and OCD. I'm almost certain he will get the Asperger's dx.
