Coughing lots of mucous

by weezy916, Feb 26, 2008 03:53PM
I have been coughing up lots of mucous for the last three to four months. After I eat, I cough up mucous until I regurgitate my food. When I don't eat, I cough white foamy mucous. What can I do?

There are many causes of a mucus producing cough, some infectious, some not.  You must seek medical care, to include:  examination, sputum culture, and chest x-ray, for starters.  The mucus could be coming from anywhere in the respiratory tract, from your nose and sinuses down to anywhere in your lungs.

It may or may not be related to eating, especially if you cough up the food rather than vomiting up the food.  That is, some type of swallowing disorder.

You should not ignore this potentially serious situation any longer.
