Coughing

For about 4 weeks now I have had times where my thoat starts feeling like it is filling up with fuild and I start coughing and then as I try to breath in I almost throw up.  Then the fuild in my mouth is very salty.  What would cause this?

The most likely cause of this would be gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), commonly called acid reflux.  Other less likely causes could be:  1) an out-pouching of your esophagus called an esophageal diverticulum, pockets where fluid can collect, then suddenly empty and flood into your esophagus and/or windpipe; 2) a problem with esophageal motility; or 3) esophageal obstruction; 4) a cyst of the upper intestinal tract; or 5) sinus drainage.

What you are experiencing is definitely abnormal.  You should check this out with your doctor who, face-to-face, will be able to get a better picture of what is going on.
