Natural supplements

Hello,

Can you tell me if taking Quercetin with Bromelain is safe?  I have heard it may help with inflammation caused by allergies.

I could find no information on interactions of these 2 herbal supplements.  It is important to note that each supplement is capable of having a serious effect on blood coagulation and could cause serious bleeding.  Taken together, this risk would be even higher, especially for individuals who are on anticoagulants, scheduled for a surgical procedure or already bleeding for any reason, such as ulcers or colitis.

Quercetin
drug interactions:  
Use with caution in individuals with a history of bleeding, hemostatic disorders, or drug-related hemostatic problems.  Use with caution in individuals taking anticoagulant medications, including warfarin, aspirin, aspirin-containing products, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), or antiplatelet agents (eg, ticlopidine, clopidogrel, dipyridamole).  Discontinue use prior to dental or surgical procedures, generally at least 14 days before.

Bromelain
theoretical interactions:  
Anticoagulant medications including warfarin, aspirin or aspirin-containing products, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), antiplatelet agents (eg, ticlopidine, clopidogrel, dipyridamole); antibiotics (eg, amoxicillin, tetracycline); sedatives (eg, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, narcotics, some antidepressants, alcohol).  Caution should be used in individuals having known allergies to plants.
