RAST test opinion

RAST test opinion

My son is allergic to dairy and eggs with the symptoms being welts, rash, itchy eyes, muscus production, pain, vomitting. He is 4 and we've known this since he was around 1 year old. He had a RAST test for eggs at 2 and the result was around 30 I recall. At 4 a RAST test was done for a variety of things (I was interested in nuts, we have avoided them) and his results were 31 for eggs, 10 for dairy, 0 for nuts and shellfish and 0.6 for wheat. He gets no symptoms from eating wheat. The doctor said it might not cause any problem until he is older but to consider reducing wheat.

I have reduced wheat somewhat but feel guilty that I'm not doing a wheat free diet. Wheat, dairy, and egg free seems so much more difficult than just dairy and egg free. We saw a dietician and she said not to worry about the wheat.
What do you think?

The value for wheat appears to be fairly low.  With this result, I would suggest keeping wheat in the diet and observing closely for any continued symptoms.  If there is a problem, this is not going to be a problem that occurs only sometimes when he eats wheat, but something that changes fairly consistently.
