chronic allergy/sinus s/s following URI

by darcee22, Jul 12, 2007 12:00AM
Hello:

Following a URI over a month ago I continue having allergy type symptoms, extreme fatigue, headaches (worse in the am) and a thick "rubber-cement like" mucuous in the back of my throat and in my nasal cavaties. This makes swallowing difficult at times. I am an otherwise young healthy adult w/o PMH. I do not take meds...NKDA. The allergy symptoms (sneezing, severe nasal congestion, rhinitis, and even wheezing at times) flare up without warning to uncomfortable levels. Otherwise they remain at a moderate level 24/7. I do not have a huge history of seasonal allergies..I had problems during pregnancy requiring loratadine use and get random "flare ups" now and again.  cannot figure out if my nasal passages became irritated from the URI and I now have a subcacute sinusitis, if this is from allergies (feels like it plus some) or both.  have tried some loradatine..helps a (very)little. I am currently using Nasacort..again..helps a little. I have tried rinsing my sinuses with saline and that seems to irritate them even more and the fluid seems to get "stuck" and continues dripping out after bending over for a day or two. Can you offer some suggestions, explanations?? I'd hate to take antibiotics if uneccesary. I don't love oral decongestants. Is there a better allergy med and why the major allergy flare up? I have heard a lot of people comment that this summer there allergies are worse than ever. Any info on this? Should I see an allergist, an ENT?
