5 month old baby using serratide

Is it okay for a 5 month old baby to be given serratide? I was told at first that my baby has asthma due to the wheezing sound pedia heard when she ausculated my daughter's back.later, they did x-ray and found out that she has pnemonia (pneumonia) bilateral lungs.I search the net regarding Serratide. It does not say there that it can be given to  babies 5 months of age. Can somebody please help me and educate me regarding this medicine.I'm just worried that my daughter may be given a high dosage inappropriate for her age.

most drugs are not tested on babies because of ethical reasons and the inability to question them about symtoms (symptoms).  Thus, most drugs are used "off label".  There is nothing wrong with doing this as long as the doctor is knowledgable and watches the child closely.

I know some drugs don't always have a difference in the effect of the medication in regards to weight.  If your baby has severe asthma, she may be on a higher dosage of medication than a 200Ib man that only has mild asthma.

The best thing to do would be to talk to your pharmicist or doctor if you have any problems or questions.  A pharmicist probably will know more about a particular drug than your doctor would as well as have access to the studies and off label uses for a particular drug.  There may also be a 24 hour health care line you can call and ask questions to as well.
