Anxiety or Asthma

by dchristodoulou, Apr 25, 2007 12:00AM
Hello, I am a 20 year old male, in prety good health.. I have no family history of heart disease or asthma. Last summer I started experiencing chest tightness and shortness of breathe, so I went to a walk in clinic doctor when I noticed me ed these symptoms were present. I did a pulmonary functions test at the clinic, I blew into the machine twice as hard as I could... He told me that the results were 50% lower then they should be. He presribed me two inhalers; a blue one and an orange one. So I took these puffers just like he told me for months and noticed no relief.. I went to my family doctor and he sent me for a complete pulmonary functions test at a near by hospital.. I passed this test with flying colors and there was little change from pre to post bronchildilation. I went back to the doctor and he said that I didnt have asthma and I had a anxiety/panic disorder.. He put me on 10 mg of Paxil, I noticed a little bit of relief over the course of 2 months.... The only thing I am worried about is that one I did the second pulmonary functions test I had no symptoms and my chest wasnt tight at all... He said it was because I was anxious when I did the test originally and that I was misdignoised... I would really love to believe him but I keep experiencing these symptoms, I have also done an x-ray and an echocardiogram and everything has come back normal.... I dont know what I should do I am now takeing 20mg of paxil per day for the last 4 days and havent noticed any improvement. What should I do ??? I am really worried about this and it feels like its takeing over my life.....Please help

Thanks
