Asthma and Pregnancy

Hi, I am 24 and very worried I am pregnant this month. It's not because I don't want a baby, it's because I am taking a prescription drug called Flovent HFA used to treat symptoms of Asthma. I did some research on the internet, and it said it is a Category C drug, which means they don't know if it is safe for human pregnancies. However, in animal studies, they did find birth defects. Has anyone been pregnant while taking this drug or has anyone known anyone in a similar situation as me? I don't know what to do. I am afraid to come off the medicine, but I am also afraid to stay on it.

You should talk to your doctors about this.  The general concensus is that it is far worse for the mother to not take asthma meds as that could seriously lower her O2 levels and cause problems. You may have other options you can switch to during your pregnancy.  So, like I said, the best source here is your OB and your asthma doctor.

Take care.
God bless.
