Asthma and enlarged lymph nodes

My son is 4 1/2 years old. He has been relatively healthy, until a nasty cough.  Our peds dr. sent us for chest x-rays to rule out pnuemonia (pneumonia).  After the x-ray, he called me and said that there was no pnuemonia (pneumonia), but that he might have asthma.  He also said they saw a lymphopathy in the hilar area of the chest.  He was unable to give me any more info at the time.  

Is a chest x-ray a good indicator of asthma?  Should I be concerned about his enlarged lymph nodes?  They did not put us on any kind of antibiotic, and we don't have an appointment for almost a month.  They said that they would do another x-ray at that time.  Is that typical treatment of this type thing?  Should I seek additional medical advice?

did they give you asthma meds?? they should have..is the follow up with his pediatrician or specialist??

They did not give me any meds other than a cough med, which I can only give him at night (it knocks him out).  They said that if his cold was not better in 2-3 weeks they would start him on steroids.  His follow up is with his peds, with an x-ray in 1-3 months.  

He is coughing less, but when he runs or gets hot his cough is terrible!
