Chlorine causing asthma?

Ever since i have been on swim team in high school i have found it hard to breath right. Now i am a sophomore in college and i work at a pool for 7hrs a day. I dont move much, just in a pool teaching kids how to swim, but i find it hard to breath- i almost cried once it was bad. I dont cough much, rarely actually...i just find it hard to breath...could the chlorine in the air/water be causing it?
i feel like im not getting enough air, and im concentrating on my breathing way more than i should be,

could this be asthma? a allergy to chlorine?

Hi!

Chlorine can certainly cause asthama problems. As you work most of your hours in pool water, this might be the reason why you are experiencing breathing problems. Please consult your doctor and go through proper treatment before this problem increase.

Get well soon!

My headache is terrible, due to the prior caretaker at a nice grandmother's
home -- & her cleaning methods.

Chlorine in any form will give me asthma. severe headaches & the anxiety that comes from this chemical in any form.

I had to hide Clorox in all forms, Comet & any other strong fuming cleaning products.  I threw all of these cleaning products, air sprays, ant killers, etc. away in the garbage.  and substituted method brand products, Lemon smelling (OK for me) and asked the other caretakers to help be aware of my sensitivities.  All were fine with that tactic, but I had to put up with backlash that I was indeed weird.

Worse comes to worse:  I JUST GET ANOTHER JOB.

What is wrong with other people who are indifferent to the people around them.  I certainly try to be empathic to my neighbor's pain.

Over many years I have found that exposure to chemicals and/or air pollution is the major cause of my severe attacks. I now have a mostly chemical free home. Also I found out that if exposed to tefflon at high temps (like when you burn the eggs) I will have major problems. So that is another item we don't keep in the house.
Funny smoke from an outdoor BBQ or fire pit is usually ok unless people are burning products you don't find in natur.

Hi,

I used to coordinate our neighborhood swim team, and both of my kids swam competive league.  Chlorine is definitely a huge trigger for some people's asthma - in door or out door pools.  Others do quite well in a pool environment.

You should see a doctor ASAP.  You may not have asthma, but you definitely need to be checked out.  You could have either asthma or reactive airway disease.  Not much difference, only that the underlying inflammation doesn't factor in.

Take care.

Chlorine can absolutely positively precipitate an asthmatic attack.

It is a powerful halogen that causes lung damage. In many cases the concentration in the pool is not monitored, and someone with a room temperature IQ is tasked with dumping in the chemicals.
