Chronic productive cough

For the past couple of years, I have had a productive cough but cannot completely cough up the mucous. I am continuously clearing my throat because of it. I was initially told I had slight bronchiectasis. On a second opinion, I was told that was not the case. The most recent CT scan shows:

The central airways appear clear. There is no significant
bronchiectasis. There is no focal consolidation or pleural
effusion. There is a tiny 2-3 mm nodule along the left major
fissure superiomedially, which may represent an
interfissural node. There are two tiny subpleural nodular
densities which are likely incidental, including the right
lung apex (image #11) and left lower lobe laterally image
#99). No pulmonary nodules or masses are seen.

There is a tiny 4 mm high attenuation focus along the
peripheral margin of the right kidney superiomedially. The
visualized portions of the upper abdomen otherwise appear
unremarkable.

I'm not a doctor, but if the only thing you have is a mildly productive cough, then the first diagnosis is a possibility. You don't mention having any shortness of breath or wheezing. Did you have a spirometry test done, to see how well your lungs are functioning? A CT scan can only show any damage your lungs may have. One test used to determine if a person has asthma is the methacholine challenge test. You inhale a substance that will cause your airways to mildly constrict (greater then 20% drop in lung function) if you have asthma.

Otherwise continue to work with your pulmonary specialist to determine the cause of your symptoms, so that you can receive the appropriate treatment.
