Duoneb use in children

Duoneb use in children

I have a grandson age 7 with asthma.  He is uninsured and his mom currently cannot refill his prescriptions.  He has used nebulizers and albuterol for years. He occasionally must visit the ER when his breathing is really bad.

A friend of mine has changed prescriptions and has offered some Duo Neb (Ipratropium bromide and albuterol sulfate).  I have looked these up on the internet and the albuterol dosage appers appropriate for children.  However, the ipratropium bromide has not been tested on children, apparantly.

What could happen if he used it?

Thank you so much for the answer and for your concern.

The kids had been on Medicaid.  Parents were divorced and father is supposed to be providing insurance, but is not.  Mother has been battling with the CHIPS (Texas) program for months.  I am sure this will be resolved eventually, but you have helped by giving me this answer.
