Help with recurring chest infections

My son is aged five, soon to turn 6. He had exema (eczema) when he was born (severe) but it cleared up aged 3. Also from he was born he also suffered with his chest , and was treated for asthma with Salamol and a steroid inhaler. These didnt seem to work well and the prescribed dose got higher and higher. He now is on the maximum dose of seritide and a singular tablet. He also takes a a nasal spray at night Flixonaise. We have tried halotherepy 20 sessions with slight improvement during them. He has had some allergy tests , and reacted to the dustmite one. He has had a chest infection every month of this year, and now the winter is coming. Also we have changed all his bed and bedding. Is there anybody with any suggestions ? Thanks

I cannot top what bsmsl stated or knows, but I am glad that you are working so hard to help your son.  Dust mits are bad, I hope that you have put plastic over his mattress as well as his pillows. Take all stuffed toys out of his room and store away from him or toss them. Carpet needs to be removed all over the home, and don't have him in your bed unless your bed is covered in plastic as well. I am very alergic (allergic) to dust mites and only the plastic bed covering works for me. Wash his bedding and PJ's in hot water often. Also, don't have draps in his room. Dust mites, even dead ones cause problems. Then I would start him of allergy drops.
I would often get really sick, up till now . Something I just learned for myself is how important it is for us to breath through our nose, of course I could not do this till I was using a nose spray to open me up....I did not know I was so clogged up.  When I was clogged up I was mouth breathing most of the time and that allowed allergies to go to the lungs but we don't have the tiny hairs that protect us from "threats" in our mouth.
Read up more on this, ( mouth breathing) as it gave me some more insight.
I hope you soon find answers.

I would recommend that you try to have the doctor do a sputum culture so that you know exactly what micr-organism is causing his infection and then choosing the antibiotic to target that organism.

I got sick in October of 2009 and had infection after infection.  I learned about Neutrophilic Asthma online and was treated for that.  I finished the targeted antibiotic for that last Sunday.  I have not felt this good or had these peak flows in over a year.  I have actually been setting new highs.

I didn't have the sputum culture done, but that is the next step if I get sick again soon.  We went on educated guess as I do have a history that supports the possibility of Neutrophilic asthma.  I also have bronchiecstasis which prediposes one to chronic infections.  That could be the issue with your son as well.  That can only be diagnosed by CT or possibly bronchoscopy, but I don't think you would want to put your son through either of those if you had the choice.

I pray that you find answers soon.  It is not fun being sick, but when your child is sick that is even worse.
