New and Concerned about Child

Hi there! I am new to this board....I am not new to asthma.  My son and daughter have it. My daughter's has usually been pretty easy to control using our plan. However, my son has always had the kind of asthma that scares me.  We have been hospitalized three times since 15 months of age. He is three this month.  Every single time he gets a chest cold we end up in the ER and he gets pnuemonia (pneumonia) so quick. Literally one day his lungs will be clear, maybe slight wheezing and then BAHM he has pneumonia.  It is not controlled at all with the plan when a cold comes and none of the treatments work.

Is this how asthma is for some people or is something more serious going on. I am just so concerned. Thanks!

P.S. Our meds are Xopenex, Pulmicort..........these do not work during a cold and we always end up on Orapred (steriod).  He has to have it though...........but we are on this a lot -----do you worry about the side effects of this if you have a child. Thanks!
