Hello all. I'm Kylie. I have currently have a sharp chest pain that I can also feel in my back and up into the underside of the jaw. It does get worse when I cough or breathe in. The sharp pain is pretty frequent and it's been like this for about 3-4 days now.
About a month ago I was experiencing shortness of breathBreath alcohol test Breath holding spell Breath odor so I went to the doctor and she said I had asthma due to allergies (I've always had really bad allergies) and prescribed me an advairAdvair diskus Advair hfa inhaler. After taking the inhaler my shortness of breathBreath alcohol test Breath holding spell Breath odor was better but I began getting really bad chest pressurePressure ulcer (like someone was sitting on my chest). I went to the doctor who did tons of tests (EKGAtrioventricular block, ekg tracing Ecg Exercise stress test, chest Xrays, etc...all came back normalNormal saline flush) and they never said anything about the inhaler possibly causing the pain. A few days later I missed a dose of the advair and noticed my chest felt better. Since then I have not taken the inhaler and I do not have any more chest pressure. However, a few weeks later I have been getting occasional shortness of breath and the sharp chest pains. Is this leftover side effects from the inhaler? If so, are they serious side effects? I'm also wondering if this is not asthma related at all. The pains are very bothersome and frustrating when no one can find anything wrong. Any ideas or suggestions you have would be much appreciated.
What type of inhaler are you on .. a single one like albuterol or a long-acting and steroidal one like Advair? Or are you on both an albuterol + steroid like Flovent?
I don't know .....my daughters who have asthma describe a feeling as if a brick is on their chest during an attack but not that sharp pain. I 'd readdress with your doctor and/or insist on seeing a pulmonologist or cardiologist if it happens again.
And I'd use the asthma tracker and go back and recreate your events on the tracker and show your doctor the cause and effect and pain you see with the meds.
