If you have a hard time gaining control of your asthma there are several things to talk to your doctor about.

1) Ask your doctor to make sure you are using your inhalers propperly.  Impropper use of an inhaler causes the medication to not reach your lungs like it is supposed to.  Also, make sure the your meter dosed inhalers (MDI's) are kept clean.  They can get clogged, especially the new Hfa ones.  

2) Make sure that you are taking all your medications as prescribed and that you are treating ALL triggers.  Don't forget life style changes to help control allergies and reflux.

3)  If you have a history of mycoplasma infections, be sure to discus the possibility of Neutrophilic Asthma.  This requires a special, strong antibiotic.  There are other causes of Neutrophilic Asthma as well.

4)  If you have adult onset asthma with chronic sinusitis, possibly with recurring nasal polyps, talk to your doctor about the possibility Aspirin Exacerbated Respiratory Disease (AERD).  AERD affects about 20% of all asthmatics and 40% of asthmatics with chronic sinusitis and is highly under diagnosed.
