Uncontrollable Cough

by mscoughing4ever, Jun 28, 2007 12:00AM
Hello, I am a 39 years do age female and have had an Uncontrollable cough for over 4 years now. I cough every minute of my life. I cough when I eat or drink.  My lungs hurt every day.  I have been to three different Asthma Specialist, who have done pulmonary test on me and have determined that I have Asthma.  I have had thousands of dollars of skin testing; blood testing and apparently I have no allergies.  I don’t cough up flem (phlegm); it’s just an out of control dry cough.  I have been to two ENT doctors and they say I have Acid Reflux l; I take Prilocec everyday for over 6 months now and no help.  I have been to a GI doctor who checked my entire intestines with a long scope and he had found no cancer, no problems. I feel that my quality of life is poor. I take the following medications: Advair twice a day, Cingular once a day and Ambuteral for when I cough out of control.  I have been put on Predazone, and I actually felt better for only two weeks and then back to the same ole story.  I was put on it again and this time it did nothing for me.  I have had chest x-rays, after chess x-rays and nothing is ever found. This all started when I had appendicitis and my appendix exploded, my cough started during this time and only got worse after surgery.  Is it possible that some toxins are in me and causing me to be ill??
I'm so tired of this; I just don’t know what else to do. Sorry ahead of time if I miss-spelled any names of medications.  Thanks!

Have they checked to make sure that you don't have a foreign body stuck in one of your airways?  They can do this with a scope.  They did it with my son after tons of other tests for fast breathing but nothing was there. He was not coughing though. I heard a story of someone with a chronic cough for 7 years and they finally looked in their airways with a scope and found a piece of a chicken bone.
