What is normal peak flow

Hi,

I got a peak flow meter with a nebuliser kit I had to get for my daughter (she had croup). Anyway, I was diagnosed with asthma quite a few years ago.  I don't take anythign for it, except for ventolin inhaler occassionally.

Anyway, I've started checking peak flow.

The best I've ever got so far is about 350 (that was after nebulising my daughter.... I probably got some of it - as it was smoking all over! LOL!.

Most mornings it is around 230 - 250, but some mornings it is about 130 - 150.  I am not coughing or wheezing at this time. Only my chest feels a bit heavy and I tend to get short of breath quickly.  But although I notice it, it doesn't really bother me too much.  Even if I do nothing this does improve as time goes on.... and gets up to around 200 or a bit higher after a few hours....

Could this low morning levels be due to allergy or lying down, or something? What level would be of concern.  I don't want to take any maintenance medicine if it can be helped.

What levels would be a concern?  Thanks in advance.

there should have been a booklet with average peak flows.  It will depend on your height, weight and age.  Also everyone is a bit different and each peak flow brand is a bit different.

You could search on the web for "Average values for ____ peak flow" and see if you can find anything.

Good thing and hope your daughter gets better soon.
