asthmatic drugs and disadvantages

hze
Hi there, my 6yr old child has quite recently been diagnosed "asthmatic"even though she has battled since she was 6months old. She now has to take "Singulair" tablet every night and also has 1 puff of Flixotide morning and night for 2 yrs!!!! ( sometimes we nebulise with Ventolin when she gets really bad) Each time she gets a cold its a new antibiotic and to date she has had a total of no less than 12 in a period of 6mnths!!!!!  The dentist has just given her some major surgery and has told me the drugs are destroying her teeth in cavities.  Incidently she hardly has any sweets or junk food.  I just don't know what to do for the best.  She has a constant barking cough and is allergic to dustmites and dust.  We live in Dubai where there is dust everywhere.  I clean her room with Vinegar and water.
Has anybody had any good results with Homeopathic remedy's  or do I keep on drugging my child.  I am at the mercy of these doctors, who can't give me an honest answer on the disadvantages of keeping my child on these drugs.  Please please help me!!!!  Hazel

I went to an alternative health clinic that uses bioset testing and accupressure when & if I get an attack but they recommended a natural supplement "Nose & Throat" that has kept my asthma under control without perscription meds.  You can google it and find someone close by that sells it.  Very impressed with the results.  And on the antibiotics & teeth, my son had the same problem.  They crowned all his baby teeth but once we had his tonsils & adnoids out he did not get sick and his permanent teeth were not affected.  Wish the best for you.

The Yoga Pranayam (breathing exercises) will  help with controlling asthma.  Note the timing for children. You can also do it with the child.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after 1 minute.

Bhastrika - Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose. Duration upto 5 minutes.

Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 10 to 30 minutes twice a day. Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.
Children under 15 years – do for 5 to 10 minutes.

Anulom Vilom –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 15 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do for 5 to 10 minutes.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.
Duration : 5 to 12  times

Once you are better, continue the pranayam once a day.
Be patient, as the benefits will show over a period of weeks.Only by doing you will benefit
and feel good because you are helping your body. Those who say I have tried everything....
will be amazed at the result of doing pranayam.

my 30 year old son has had asthma since birth.  he was a 3 month premature twin and wa ventilated for 2 months.  he has had every prescription imaginable including inhalers pills shots nebulizers over the years.  at one point he used a nebulizer twice a day and a rescue inhaler 2 or 3 times a day.  we were always instructed to have him flush his mouth with water at all times which he did religiously after any oral medication. this has gone on for years including many emergency room trips and hospitalizations. He is allergic to many items and we've lived in deserts and semi tropical climates, from sea level to 6,000 ft elevations.  Happily however he has NEVER had a cavity and infact had to have many of his baby teeth pulled by a dentist because they wouldn't fall out. He had 6 surgeries for varying conditions before he was 10, and was constantly on anti-biotics (any cold would send him to the emergency room). I too was told the constant use of anti-biotics would cause th teeth to deterriorate but in his case it didn't happen. I hope this hasn't panicked you asthma treatment has progressed considerably in 30 years & can be tricky to find the correct regime of environment excercise and medication for each individual.  My son hasn't had a hospitalization or attack for over 8 years now with a minimal amount of meds and restrictions, and has still never had a toothache.  Good luck and God bless!
