cough now for several months

cough now for several months

ive had a cough now for several months and i went to the doctors and they said it was properly asthma
after at least a month or probably longer of using a brown and blue inhaler it doesnt seem to be getting much better. Im 17 and do smoke, but usually when out with friends - thats when i can smoke a lot
sometimes when my cough is really bad it gets to the point where i feel like i could vomit,
i usually have a coughing fit at some point in the night or in the early morning  and i do cough randomly throughout the day
usually menthol cough sweets do help my cough.
is it smoking that is causing my coughing not to go away and does this sound like asthma? is it the combination of both?
i really want it to go away now!
and its a dry cough

please help

You need to stop smoking as that may be the whole problem.  You also need to have full pulmonary function tests to show how well the ventolin works (blue inhaler) and to determine if it is really asthma.

The symptoms do sound like asthma but it is hard to know with the smoking because it can cause COPD which has similar symptoms but is not as reversible and treatable as asthma.
