hives

by gigi60, Oct 29, 2007 02:13PM
I have suffered from hives for over 25 years. I am also steroid dependant . I was on prednisone for years for chronic asthma. Now the Lord has taken my asthma away. I haven't had an asthma attack in 5 years. However now I can't get off the steroids. Everytime I get on a low dose for a period of time, I break out in these awful hives. The only thing that makes them go away is to get on about 60 mg. of prednisone and after a week or so the condition starts to get better. This has been a mystery to every doctor that I have seen. No one has an answer. This happens more and more often--about 2-3 times a year. The rest of the time if I just stay on 10 mg. of prednisone, I do ok. HELP!!!

Urticaria, commonly called hives, can be an extremely complex problem.  You want to consider an evaluation at National Jewish Medical and Research Center, if traveling to Denver, Colorado is feasible.  Please read our hives (urticaria) information at http://www.nationaljewish.org/disease-info/diseases/allergy/about/conditions/hives.aspx to learn more.
