It's not always possible for an asthmatic to be controlled without use of an inhaled corticosteroid medication. It may be possible in your case, but it may not be. I hope that your doctors will be able to work together closely to find an appropriate treatment for your complicated situation.
Also, as npc3 pointed out, your rescue medication should be able to remain the same. Bronchodilators such as Albuterol, (others include: Levelabuterol, Pirbuterol, Terbutaline, etc.), are not steroids.
Albuterol (should be your rescue med) is not a steroid, neither is servent and tons of other asthma meds. You need to go see your primary doc to get your meds changed until the tumor thing is resolved.
Thanks, i was taking staroid meds on and off my asthma gets really bad sometimes and then gets alittle better. i take flovent its only 110 mcgs i take to puffs morning and night i also take singuair but it doesnt seem to do anything. thank you for your help ill have to tell my docter about them.
I'd recommend seeing a Pulmonary Specialist as soon as you can. How long have you been taking steroid medication for your asthma? Which medications do you take, and at which doses?
If you're a mild asthmatic, switching to a non-steroid preventative like Cromolyn or Nedodromil may work for you. Theophylline is another option either instead of, or in addition to one of the non-steroid preventatives. Accolate, Singulair, or Zyflo may help if there is an allergic component to your asthma. Atrovent is another option, but would probably need to be taken four times each day to work as a preventative.
I will let you know if I think of anything else. Good luck working out some kind of treatment with your Pulmonary Specialist. I hope you find something that works for you!
