loss of smell and taste

my husband had been suffering from severe asthma attacks in his younger days.  now, he is somewhat relieved because he never experienced asthma attacks again, after our marriage.  the weird thing is, slowly, he is losing his sense of smell.  now, after suffering on and off loss of smell in five years, he had completely lost everything, including his sense of taste.  what could he do to gain the smell and taste back?

You should contact a ENT (ear, nose, throat specialist) and get him tested for nasal polyps.  They are very common in asthmatics and allergy sufferers and can affect smell and taste.
