new to asthma question

My 11 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with asthma. (2 months ago). She was on Advair but got dizzy after 2 weeks, off for one week back on to rule in or out Advair as cause for dizziness. After 2 weeks the dizziness came but. She also has been experiencing extreme chest pain, not just tightness. She is now off the Advai and it has been 3 days, she is still experiencing the dizziness. The makers of Advair say it should be totally out of her system in 2-1/2 days. Could this be something else?

Some individuals are exquisitely sensitive to sympathetic amines (the active ingredient of the Serevent® (salmeterol xinafoate) in Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol.  It is conceivable that your daughter is very sensitive to this class of medicine.  The dizziness and, especially, her "extreme" chest pain are worrisome.  Both chest pain and dizziness could be indicators of an abnormal heart rhythm in response to the salmeterol.  Although unlikely, these symptoms could be a sign of an underlying heart condition or a metabolic disorder, such as an over active thyroid, called hyperthyroidism.  The assertion that the Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol should be out of her system in a couple days is correct.  A trial of Flovent® Rotadisk® (fluticasone propionate inhalation powder) for asthma control, given alone might be worthy of consideration.

Another option would be for your daughter to be observed and monitored, including cardiac monitoring of heart rate and rhythm, in her physician's office, after the administration of a short-acting inhaled bronchodilator, such as albuterol.
