not sure if i have asthma

when i was a baby they said i had asthma but i have had no symtoms (symptoms) till recently the last couple of months i have been short of breath wheezing and coughing non stop i smoke about a pack a day for a year and a halfand im 16 i have never had an asthma attack as long as i can remember but lately i have been worrried is a serious attack on the way?

Asthma attacks aren't always life threatening.  An attack or flare-up is just an increase in symptoms.  

You need to stop smoking, if you don't you are well on your way to serious health problems (worse than asthma) that could kill you.  

The best is to go see a doctor and get some treatment, you will feel a lot better after that.
