pft results affected by other problem

Hi there.  I suppose my main question is could my pft results have been incorrect with the dianosis of copd/asthma because of acid aspiration from achalasia.  Maybe this is wishful thinking but was hoping that it was the damage from the acid which had given me the results rather than the smoking (which has stopped, the smoking I mean,) is it possible that acid aspiration can give you a lower TLCO SB  (47%) and FEV1 /FVC% (63%) than expected hence the copd/asthma diagnosis thankyou so much for your time Withie.

Acid reflux can cause respiratory symptoms and changes in the lung, particularly related to asthma rather than COPD.  However, having a single test will not give you the answer to your question.  The PFT has to be performed before and after an inhaled bronchodilator to give you an idea as to the acute affects of the reflux.  Since you have not mentioned how many and for how long you smoked, it is also not possible to really give you a good idea of if the smoking caused the low test scores. You need the additional testing and may want to see a pulmonologist.

Do you think the 10 cigarettes per day over 30 years would have the impact on the pft results as stated in my previous posting whereby you mentioned the amount of cigarettes I smoked, as opposed to the achalasia being the cause of the abnormal pft results  Thankyou so much once again. Withie
