Do you play sports? Do you rag around with your friends? If you can do both of these things then your problem is minor. What you might have are allergies. When you inhale or eat something that your are allergic to, your lungs can get inflamed and you develop mucus and shortness of breath. This doesn't kill you. It is just annoying. The next time your parents take you to the doctor for a checkup, tell him/her what is bothering you and ask if you are suffering from allergies or asthma. If that is the case, it is easily taken care of, so stop worrying. Often childhood asthma disappears with time. At least it does in my family.
