vocal cord paralysis and asthma

I was diagnosed with vocal cord paralysis one yr ago and I have had asthma for many yrs.  Last week I had an asthma flare up and when given a neb treatment at the dr's office my symptoms got worse.  I found it very difficult to catch my breath.  I was wondering if my vocal cord paralysis which makes me short-winded anyway, had played a factor with my reaction to the neb treatment?

It is highly unlikely that your paralyzed vocal cord combined with the nebulizer treatment to make you more short-winded.  Some inhaled bronchodilators can have a paradoxical response of the airways; increasing the airway tightness that is characteristic of asthma, rather than relieving it.  This is often specific to one bronchodilator or one manufacturer and not to others.  You should ask the doctor about the bronchodilator used that day and avoid it in the future, just in case.

It is also possible that the inhalant caused the healthy vocal cord to spasm or contract.  In that case you would have had more trouble breathing in, than with breathing out.
