Spinocerebellar ataxia occurs due to atrophy of the cerebellum and is a progressive gait disorder that also may be associated with lack of coordination of hands, eye movements and speech. Although there is no permanent cure for spinocerebellar ataxia and may get worse with time. Treatments are generally limited to provide symptomatic relief. Person with the disease may need assistance to perform daily essential tasks and wheelchair. Hope this information proves helpful.
