Asperger and Imagination

My son has been seeing a dr to try to get help with some behavior issues.  At school he can not sit still and often goes into what we call his wild man, attacking other children, ripping things off the walls.  He is O.K. with one on one but horrible in a group.  Even with other children will only play with them one at a time. He can never tell me the names of anyone he's played with. He walks on his tippy toes and drools. Has no problem academic wise except for not paying attention and some under developed small motor skills that effect writing neatly.  The doctor and therapist both think he likely has a very high IQ.  I have a brother who is autistic and at first the doctor was leaning towards an aspergers diagnosis, but when he saw that my son has a very good imagination he backed off from this theory.  He has always been very imaginative and often has vivid violent dreams.  I guess my question is how important is the imagination or lack there of to aspergers?

Is he "stuck" on certain topics such as knowing everything about trains or some such subject?  Wanting to only play trains?  Was his speech fine at an early age but not his social skills?  these are the traits of Aspergers versus Autism.  I am not an expert, but your son sounds like he has impulse control issues associated with ADHD. You need to get him evaluated by a child development expert and not a pediatriacian.  Good luck.
