Does my 4 yr old have asprgers

Should i be concerned that my daugther has Aspergers?

She is 4 yrs of age and is as lot of respects is very advanced for her age, she spoke early and shows signs of intelligence beyond her years.  We live in France and last year she started the school system here, mornings only to start with but was, as with a lot of young children very shy and timid.  She made a friend who she adores, luckily but she is also shy, although they are close and play together when unobserved by me, she will not say hello to her or go to her in the play ground when i am there.  I cannot leave her with her friend in the play ground i always have to hand her over to another adult.

This year she started to go all day and stay for lunch.  She does not seem to cope with changes, must have same bowl, plate, cup, spoon etc... things must be just so in her world and her mind and this has been the case since about 18 months.  She shows many signs of OCD. When she is extrememly tired, if something frustrates her or she cannot get her point across she can go into two types of scenario, one is shut down mode, where she cannot communicate and kind of goes blank and the other is hysteria where you cannot reason with her.  Both modes take a great deal of effort and distraction to come out of, sometimes worse than others, subject to trigger and state of tiredness.

We notice it more so when she is tired and it seems to only be with us as parents, which is why we are unsure if it is a condition or just a difficult toddler testing mummys boundries.  We have notice that concentration on numbers and letters can bring her round very quickly.  I have heard that these may be symptons.

Please help

If you have concerns, the first person you need to speak to is your child's pediatrician.  Explain your concerns, and ask him of her if there is someone in your area who could do an evaluation on your daughter.  Some of the behaviors you describe can be displayed both by typical toddlers and children with autism spectrum disorders,so it will be important to discuss your concerns with someone who can determine whether or not your daughter has Asperger's syndrome.  Best of luck in the future.
