How to influence ASD son

I have two sons ages 7 and recently 6.  One is on the spectrum and the other was diagnosed with Aspergers.  The 7 year old on the spectrum is behind in reading and rarely gets invited to play dates with friends -- girls seem to like him (which is bad in 2nd grade) and boys seem to ignore him but he doesn't seem to even notice.  My concern is that I struggle every night to get him to read his minutes, but when I tell him it is the last page, it is like a "switch."  He focuses, misses very few words and reads very quickly.  I'm amazed at some of the words he can read when he is in "final page mode."  When he isn't, he struggles with words such as "they."   Any suggestion how to get him to enjoy reading more?

The 6 year old is helping.  He is the opposite of the 7 year old and they are competitive with each other.  He gets invited to all kinds of play dates, kids in his class call him "best friend," etc.  We are about half way through his K year and he knows the sight words for the entire year.  When practicing, he laughs and says this is easy.  He is already doing multiplication and can easily count forward and backward to 100.  To me, it seems my 7 year old is lazy.  I ask him his phone number, and he goes to his brother and says tell dad the phone number.  Of course, the 6 year old knows the phone number.

I'll admit, the 7 year old sounds a lot like me when I was his age.  For parents with kids on the spectrum, my wife tells me I'm on the spectrum all the time, but I played football in high school, and I'm currently working on my PhD while working full time as an overpaid engineer.  ASD has literally given me a competitive advantage to focus on a single topic.  I digress.

How can I get my 7 year old to do his homework without a fight every night?  I know he is fully capable.  And, how do I challenge my 6 year old more?  It seems that schools are so concerned with NCLB that kids in special ed and kids who are bored in school are left behind.
