Need diagnosis help!

Our 11 year old daughter has suffered with developmental delays, a learning disability and social awkwardness her whole life. She has been part of an IEP at her school for the past 3 years and receives special needs help in the class room. She walked very late (21 months old), and had verbal dyspraxia – but after speech therapy now does a lot better with speech – but still sounds different. The learning disability is obviously being dealt with through the school and we kept her back a year.  She is behind in math and comprehension, but remembers a huge amount of phone numbers and is great at reading and spelling.  She can read a book perfectly – but ask her what it was about – she has no idea.

She is very affectionate, always happy. She is VERY sociable – to the point of obsession. Personal space is an issue.  She has to know what we are doing next – and will ask hundreds of questions to find out.  She will also repeat back what we’ve just told her in a question, or asks questions to things she knows the answer to already.  Very high attention to detail and likes to listen in on other people’s conversation.  She is very clean and tidy – and it meticulous when it comes to cleaning her room and having everything in its place.  She will even clean the kitchen and pick up her siblings clothes without being asked – she is very good at routines.

Some family background – we have 8 children total ranging in age from new born to 17.  All of our other children lead normal healthy lives and average to high academic achievers.  Everything else about our home life is average/normal.

Medical professionals conducted a series of tests a few years ago and ruled out autism spectrum and Asperger’s, but in our opinion she clearly exhibits at least a few aspects of each condition.  The big question for us is – what is it she has – and is it treatable?
