Sensory Processing Disorders testing??

Sensory Processing Disorders testing??

I am a 34 year old mother of two. I have been diagnosed in the past with Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome and been treated with bifocals for roughly ten years. Recently, my eye doctor said it was Irlen Syndrome and the treatment is very dark tinted glasses to wear.  Hopefully

My question is, once you are properly diagnosed with one sensitivity, is there a way to test for others? My eye doctors know about my light and color sensitivity, but I'm afraid to ask them about my sensitivity to sound, people, and places.  Not to mention smell, taste, and touch. Or that I have panic attacks when I feel like it is sensory overload. Or that everyone swears I have OCD but I know I don't, I just like order and repitition. This is normal for me, I have lived with it all my life and dealt with issues as best as I can. I am a librarian and I have an above average intelligence. I do not have ADD/ ADHD/ or Dyslexia.  But I know I have problems dealing with my senses and I am somewhat shy of going to the doctor.  I am not looking to be medicated but to learn better coping strategies.

How does a person get further sensory processing tests? I am a bit worried because I have children and it was stated that Irlen Syndrome is hereditary.  But if I have other things that bother me at times too, maybe looking into it further is a good thing?

Further testing and seeking second opinions is always a good thing! If you aren't interested in medication, make that clear to the doctor you're seing. There's no reason why you shouldn't talk to your doctor if you are continuing to experience difficulties.
