is my daughter dyslexia

my  daughter is nearly 8 years old , she stared speech therphy when she was 2 years old until feb 2006. she finds it very hard to read and do maths ,her handwriting is very good for someone of her age, i was told when she was in nursery that she needed one to one teaching  to do with speech and language, then i was told that she would level out in primary 3 , she hasnt and things seem yo be getting worse instead of better she cannot grasp her 2s 5s and 10 times tables , it just seems that whatever she is being taught does not register with her and i know thats not her fault becauses she really does try, she gets so frustrated and angry with herslf when she cant get something right , she still sometimes reads backwords and reverses letters like was and saw, she has stopped joining in  where before she would have loved it. i have tried playing memory games , i spy at the moment i am at my wits end worrying about when she goes to primary 5 as the work will be harder again , she has been on the school psychologist list from may 2007 but have just been told that she will not be seen this term can you help me find out why she cannot retain information .

Hi Nicola,
I'm not posting with an answer, sorry.  Have you seen my post about Literacy and Numeracy.  Does that sound similar to your daughter?  I'm also trying to find out if it is dyslexia/autism/learning difficulty.  The difficulties my son has are also not related to overall 'intelligence' and therefore I am suspecting something else.  Do you also have that feeling, that it is not your daughter's intelligence level but some kind of cognitive difficulty?  There is a similar problem with numeracy called dyscalculia, but I don't think it fits my son's profile.  I was interested to see that your daughter writes back to front.  My son writes back to front, upside down, mirror image.  For example he might think a 3 is a 'm' or a 'w', so he doesn't seem to be able to 'fix the orientation of letters/numbers in his mind'.
